Oh Tiki Bar, you’ll soon be mine.

tikibarFor a while, Dimmett and I have discussed building an indoor bar in the next house we aquire. It’s been a dream for both of us and it’s fastly becoming a reality.

After discovering the podcast, TikiBarTV.com, I became an avid fan of all things Tiki. Whether it’s the mugs, the lighting, or just the natural look of a tiki bar, I was in love. I discussed this over with Dimmett and he agreed that it sounded like an incredible idea (to build a tiki bar, that is).

So we started by making some sketches on paper with crayons and then to wireframes done in illustrator. Next thing you know it, me and Jenn are at Big Lots buying tiki stuff out the kaboose. With only $32 bucks, we bought a majority of the accessories we will be needing for the bar:

  • 2 Straw Beach Mats (for siding around the base of the bar)
  • 8 Hula Skirts (for roofing, of course)
  • 2 Pool Noodles (for arm support around the edge of the bar)
  • 1 box of “Hawian Shirt and Surfboard” tiki lights (They are rad)
  • 1 jar of Crazy Straws (in various colors)
  • 1 set of colorful dishes for olives and what not
  • 1 Colorful Cutting Board for lime destruction

Tomorrow we plan on heading out to Home Depot to start looking at wood prices and seeing if we can find any local retailer that could provide us with bamboo. Then we’ll start building (and hopefully finish) on Saturday. If all goes according to plan, expect a very special event next weekend, courtesy of 101B at Waterfall Cove. I’ll post pictures as they are provided.
